Former NCAA Division II placekicker & kickoff specialist • Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks • 1998–2000
Scott Johnson brings collegiate-level kicking experience to athletes ages 12–21, with a coaching approach built around repeatable mechanics, consistent contact, accuracy, power and confidence.

117 total collegiate points, ranking 8th all-time among Minnesota State kickers based on the program history provided.
71 successful extra points during his collegiate career.
More than 23 career field goals, with a collegiate long of 39 yards.
Converted 38 of 40 extra-point attempts in 1999, a 95% conversion rate and tied for the 6th-most PATs made in a single season in Minnesota State history based on the supplied program records.
Converted 7 extra points against Missouri Western State on September 11, 1999.
Averaged 53.8 yards per kickoff in 2000, totaling 215 yards on 4 recorded kickoffs.
Howard Wood Field • Sioux Falls, South Dakota
In a North Central Conference regular-season finale, Minnesota State defeated Augustana 13–10 in cold, windy conditions. Scott Johnson went 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting from 22 yards in the second quarter and then drilling a 34-yard field goal with 10:53 remaining in the fourth quarter.
That fourth-quarter kick proved to be the decisive score in the 13–10 victory, giving Scott a defining example of executing when the outcome was on the line.
Blakeslee Stadium • Mankato, Minnesota
In one of the most dramatic games of Scott Johnson's collegiate career, Minnesota State battled Northern Colorado through four overtimes before falling 49–47.
Scott made two field goals during regulation—26 yards in the first quarter and a 27-yard field goal with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 27–27 and forced overtime.
In the first overtime, his 36-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Martin Jones, but Minnesota State recovered the ball and continued the drive. The game ultimately went four overtimes before Northern Colorado secured the 49–47 victory.
The coaching lesson: kicking isn't about making every kick. It's about having the technique, preparation and mental toughness to respond to the next opportunity.
Career game details verified against Minnesota State University, Mankato's official historical football box scores and 1998 cumulative statistics.
Coach Scott Johnson — Herbert Hoover High School • Des Moines, Iowa • 1994–1997
Long before his collegiate kicking career, Scott built a multi-sport athletic foundation at Herbert Hoover High School in Des Moines. His development across soccer, swimming and football shaped the technical and athletic foundation he now brings to specialist training.
5-Time Varsity Letter Winner • 8th–12th Grade
A multi-year starter who earned All-State Soccer honors. Soccer developed the hip rotation, balance, coordination and precise foot-to-ball contact that translate directly to elite kicking mechanics.
4-Time Varsity Letter Winner • 4-Year State Meet Qualifier
Scott qualified for the Iowa state meet throughout his high-school swimming career. At the 1997 State Championship Meet at the University of Iowa, he recorded a 21.93-second 50-yard freestyle and a 49.90-second 100-yard freestyle, demonstrating speed, explosiveness and competitive preparation.
2-Time Varsity Letter Winner • 1996 Class 4A Second-Team All-State Punter
Recognized by the Des Moines Register as a Class 4A Second-Team All-State punter. Scott's leg strength was on display with a 77-yard punt against West Des Moines Dowling, showcasing the power and ball-striking ability that became a foundation of his specialist career.
“My coaching philosophy isn't just based on standard football drills. It is built on a lifetime of athletic execution. By combining the fluid hip mechanics of an All-State soccer player, the explosive power developed through competitive swimming, and the pressure-tested mental model of a college specialist, I provide young kickers with a technical training blueprint built around mechanics, consistency and confidence.”
Scott's coaching is grounded in actual collegiate game experience across the three areas today's specialists need most: kickoffs, PATs and field goals. He translates the mechanics, routines and preparation he developed as a college kicker into practical instruction athletes can use on the field.
“Success on the football field isn't just about leg strength. It is about repeatable mechanics, consistent contact and the confidence to execute when the game is on the line.”
